Aare Wall Sconce

Aare — two blades of etched solid brass, parted by a single line of light. Two tall, gently curved leaves stand side by side on the wall, with a narrow gap between them. Light rises from inside that gap, so instead of a lamp you see a fine vertical seam of glow, framed by metal that looks as if it has been weathered for decades.

The surface is acid-etched by hand, leaving an irregular pattern of raised, polished brass against darker recessed metal — something between hammered gold, lichen on stone and an old map. In daylight it is a sculptural metal relief. In the evening the light catches every raised edge and the whole piece warms to a deep, burnished gold.

Why it is worth the wall

• Solid brass, hand-etched. The etching is done by hand, so the pattern is irregular and genuinely different on every piece. It is a surface with depth you can feel, not a printed or painted effect.
• Light as a single line. The integrated LED sits hidden between the two blades, so there is no visible bulb or diffuser — just a precise slit of warm light and a soft wash on the wall either side.
• Tall and slender. 31.5" tall and only 5.1" wide, it adds height and drama to a narrow wall, beside a doorway or between windows, without taking up visual space.
• Bright, warm LED. A 26W integrated LED at 3000K — strong enough to genuinely light a room, in a warm white that makes the brass glow. Included and ready to install.

Where it belongs

Aare suits rooms with a darker, more tailored mood. Use a pair to flank a bookcase or desk in a study, either side of a bed in place of table lamps, or either side of a fireplace or console in the living room. It is especially strong against dark painted walls, plaster and wood paneling, where the gold of the brass stands out.

Specifications

A note on the finish: because the etching is done by hand, the pattern, tone and depth vary from piece to piece and will differ from the photographs. A living brass finish also deepens gently over time. These are marks of the craft, not defects.

Frequently asked questions

Is it solid brass?

Yes. Both blades are solid brass, etched by hand and finished in an antique tone.

Where does the light come from?

The LED is concealed between the two blades. You see a single vertical line of light and a warm glow on the wall around it, rather than a bulb or shade.

Is it bright enough to light a room?

Yes. The 26W LED is a strong source for a wall light, so a pair can light a study or bedroom on their own. It also works as accent lighting alongside ceiling fixtures.

How high should I mount it?

Because it is tall, place the center about 60–66 inches from the floor in a living room or study, and about 50–60 inches beside a bed. Keep a pair at the same height and roughly symmetrical to the furniture between them.

Do I need to buy bulbs?

No. The LED is integrated and included.

How do I care for the brass?

Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid metal polish and abrasive cleaners, which would remove the etched antique finish.
