Flying Glass Feather Chandelier

The Flying Glass Feather Chandelier is a standout in the "Poetic Industrial" movement. While the Angel Wings model captures a singular, massive silhouette, the Flying Glass Feather series focuses on the individual, rhythmic descent of hundreds of glass "plumes." It is designed to turn high-volume air—like that in a grand lobby or a three-story stairwell—into a fluid, luminous installation.

It is most recognized for its use in luxury commercial spaces (like hotel atriums and high-end malls) and residential grand foyers where a "sculptural wave" effect is desired.

The Aesthetic: This fixture utilizes a "dissolved" design language. Hundreds of hand-blown glass feathers are suspended independently by ultra-thin aircraft cables. This creates the illusion of a flock of feathers momentarily caught in a draft, cascading through the room.

Materiality: Each feather is crafted from high-clarity glass, often featuring a ribbed or "diamond" texture to increase light refraction. While Clear is the standard, Its trends have introduced Red or Pink "shards"—small glass accents within the cluster that add a dash of romantic color.

Integrated Illumination: Unlike traditional chandeliers that use central bulbs, the Flying Glass Feather relies on integrated LED modules hidden within the ceiling canopy or tucked subtly into the "vortex" of feathers to provide a soft, ambient glow that makes the glass appear to self-illuminate.

Support for "Bespoke Drawings"

The hallmark of ordering through boutiques like Malane Lighting is the Bespoken Service. Because no two grand lobbies are identical, the Flying Glass Feather is rarely sold "as-is":

Vortex & Wave Blueprints: You can request a custom drawing where the feathers follow a specific architectural path—such as a "S-curve" wave over a long reception desk or a "tight vortex" for a spiral staircase.

Feather Count & Density: For a more "ethereal" look, you can specify a lower density of glass. For a "Cloud of Light" effect, designers often double the standard feather count to create a solid mass of glass.

Color Accents: Custom orders often include a percentage of Amber, Smoke, or Amethyst feathers mixed into the clear cluster to coordinate with the room's color palette.

Expert Tips

The "Atrium Drift": In triple-height spaces, the 250cm drop (approx. 8.2 feet) acts as a vertical anchor. Position the lowest feather roughly 8 feet above the floor to ensure the installation remains part of the room’s "sky" rather than an obstruction.

Natural Light Synergy: If your foyer has a skylight, the glass feathers will capture the sun during the day, creating a "shimmering rain" effect that changes as the sun moves.

Maintenance Strategy: Given the height and the hundreds of glass elements, cleaning is done via compressed air canisters or professional ultrasonic misters every 12–18 months. Manual wiping is discouraged due to the complexity of the suspension wires.

Lead Times: Due to the hand-blown nature of the glass feathers and the custom drawing phase, lead times for the Flying Glass Feather typically range from 10 to 12 weeks. Every order includes extra glass feathers to account for any accidental breakage during installation.
