Palma Cristallo Chandelier

Palma Cristallo — four tiers of clear glass fronds, curling outward as they descend. Each piece is a long ribbed blade of textured glass that turns up sharply at its tip, like a palm leaf caught mid-unfurl. They ring the frame in overlapping rows, and because every frond curls away from the body, the silhouette bristles rather than hangs smooth.

It is tall: 42 inches from crown to tip, against only 21.7 inches across. That is a deliberately vertical fixture, and an uncommon one — most chandeliers of this quality spread wide and need a table beneath them. This one drops. It is built for the space where the ceiling is high and the floor plan is not: a stairwell, a double-height entry, a landing seen from two levels.

Why it costs what it costs

• Entirely clear glass. There is nowhere to hide. Colour and opacity forgive imperfect casting; clear glass shows every flaw, so every frond has to be right.
• Deep ribbed texture. The surface pattern is formed into the glass, giving each blade real depth. Lit by thirteen bulbs from inside, the ribs refract the light into hundreds of hard bright points — the closest this catalogue comes to true crystal sparkle.
• The curl is the difficulty. Each frond is shaped so its tip turns outward and upward. That is a separate forming step on every single piece, and it is what makes the fixture read as foliage rather than as a stack of plates.
• Chrome frame. Cool polished metal behind clear glass keeps the whole fixture silver and icy rather than warm.
• Thirteen lights inside four tiers, so the glass is lit from within at every level and no tier falls dark.

Specifications

Where it belongs

This is a vertical fixture and it needs vertical space. It is at its best in a stairwell, hung so the tiers are read from the landing above as well as the hall below; in a double-height entry, where 42 inches of glass fills the volume that a wide chandelier cannot; or over a round dining table in a room with tall ceilings, where its narrow footprint clears sightlines across the table.

On a standard eight-foot ceiling it will hang low enough to walk into — it is not a fixture for an ordinary hallway or a flat-ceilinged living room. Measure the full drop including the suspension before ordering, and tell us your ceiling height so we can set the suspension correctly.

It is a large glass fixture carrying thirteen lamps. Mount it to a ceiling box rated for a chandelier of this size and fixed to structural framing or a proper brace, and have a licensed electrician confirm the fixing before installation. Plan on two or three people, and hang the frame before fitting glass.

Frequently asked questions

How big is the Palma Cristallo and what does it cost?

21.7 inches wide and 42.1 inches tall (55 x 108 cm), excluding the suspension.

How many bulbs does it take?

Thirteen, all E14 small screw base. E14 is smaller than the E26 and E27 bases common in North America; in the United States, E12 candelabra bulbs are the closest widely stocked equivalent, and we can confirm fit for your installation. Choose 2700K warm white, or 3000K if you want the clear glass to read cooler and more crystalline.

Will it fit a normal ceiling?

Probably not comfortably. At 42 inches tall before the suspension, it hangs low enough on a standard eight-foot ceiling to be walked into. It is designed for stairwells, double-height entries, and rooms with tall ceilings. Measure your full drop before ordering and tell us your ceiling height.

Is the texture etched onto the glass?

No. The ribbed pattern is formed into the glass itself, which is why each frond has visible depth and refracts light into sharp points rather than reflecting it flatly.

Is this crystal?

It is clear textured glass rather than cut lead crystal. The optical effect is comparable — the deep ribbing breaks light into bright points — but the character is softer and more organic than faceted crystal, and the fronds are formed rather than cut.

Is it dimmable?

It runs on a common wall switch and has no built-in dimming, so it depends on the bulbs. Dimmable LED or filament bulbs on a compatible wall dimmer will dim, and with thirteen lamps in clear glass it is well worth doing.

What does it need to hang from?

A ceiling box rated for a chandelier of this size, fixed to structural framing or a purpose-installed brace — a standard light-fixture box is not sufficient. Have a licensed electrician confirm the mounting before installation, and plan for two or three people to hang it.

How do I clean it?

Dust each frond with a soft dry brush, working into the ribbing where dust collects, and support the piece as you work. Clear glass shows dust far more readily than coloured or opal glass, so plan on cleaning it more often than you would a tinted fixture. Do not spray cleaner onto the fixture; dampen a cloth instead.

Will it work outside the United States?

Yes. It accepts AC 110-240 V, so it runs on either a 120 V or a 220-240 V supply.

Can it be used in a bathroom or outdoors?

No. It is an indoor fixture.
