Serge Mouille Black Tripod Desk Lamp

Designed in 1954, the Tripod Desk Lamp is one of Serge Mouille's most intimate and recognizable works. It features a sharp, three-legged base that gives the fixture a kinetic, predatory appearance, reminiscent of a large insect. Topped with the signature "Moule" (mussel) shade, this lamp provides highly focused task lighting while maintaining a slim profile that does not clutter the workspace.

The "Moule" Shade: The hand-molded aluminum shade features a white-painted interior to maximize light output. It sits on a solid brass swivel joint, allowing for 360-degree rotation to eliminate glare on screens or paper.

The Tripod Base: Three slender, hand-soldered steel legs provide a stable, lightweight foundation. The "rear" leg acts as a balancing point, giving the lamp a forward-leaning, dynamic silhouette.

Artisanal Finish: Each piece is hand-painted in a signature matte black lacquer. The connection points feature Serge Mouille’s hallmark brass "triple-screw" accents, signaling its authenticity.

Tactile Switch: Unlike modern touch-lamps, the Tripod features a classic, high-quality switch integrated into the base or cord, emphasizing its mid-century heritage.

Expert Recommendations
The Executive Desk: Position the lamp to the left or right of a laptop. Its thin legs allow it to sit over documents or keyboards without taking up valuable desk real estate.

The Bedside Table: Its compact footprint makes it an ideal alternative to a wall-mounted sconce for those who prefer a freestanding lamp with a directional glow.

Architectural Accents: Use it on a bookshelf or a minimalist console. The "Tripod" silhouette creates a sharp, graphic contrast against light-colored walls.

Is the base heavy? While the lamp is light enough to move easily, the tripod geometry is precision-balanced to prevent tipping, even when the shade is rotated at an extreme angle.
