Serge Mouille Ceiling Light A

The Serge Mouille Ceiling Light—often referred to as the "Spider" or "Insect" lamp—was a reactionary response to the overly complicated Italian designs of the 1950s. Mouille sought to create a light that was "a kinetic sculpture in space." Featuring long, slender steel arms and signature "mussel-shell" swivel heads, this fixture provides a dramatic architectural canopy that can be adjusted to highlight specific areas of a room.

Swivel "Mussel" Shades: The iconic aluminum shades are modeled after the organic curves of a shell. They feature a brass swivel joint, allowing for 360-degree rotation to direct light precisely.

Tapered Steel Arms: The slender, hand-soldered arms provide a sense of weightlessness despite their expansive reach.

Hand-Painted Finish: Each authentic piece is finished in a signature matte black lacquer with a stark white interior for maximum light reflection.

Signature Brass Detailing: Small brass triple-screw accents provide a warm contrast to the industrial black steel, a hallmark of the original 1950s production.

Expert Recommendations
The Living Room Canopy: The 3-arm version is ideal for standard-sized living rooms, providing a central focal point that spreads light across seating areas without the bulk of a traditional chandelier.

Dining Overhang: In large open-plan spaces, the 6-arm version acts as a "ceiling sculpture," allowing you to point one arm at a piece of art, another at a dining table, and a third at a lounge area.

Minimalist Contrast: Pairs best with monochromatic interiors, raw concrete, or mid-century teak furniture. Its thin lines ensure it never "clutters" a visual field.

Are the arms adjustable? In the classic "Fixed" Ceiling Lamp A, the arms are set in a permanent position, but the shades swivel. There are "Rotating" versions available where the arms can pivot.

Is it bright enough for a main light? Yes. Because each arm holds a high-wattage bulb and the white interior reflects light efficiently, it is capable of illuminating large spaces.
